Bonnaroo, or Bon-a-roo, is a New Orleans French Creole slang phrase meaning “best on the street”. The term may refer to: Bonnaroo Music Festival, an annual music festival held in Manchester, Tennessee, U.S. Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is a four-day festival that features a ton of live music acts and performers from all genres including indie rock, classic rock, hip hop, jazz, world music, bluegrass, folk, gospel, Americana, country music, reggae, electronic, pop, and other alternative music.
This internationally acclaimed music and arts festival is held each June on a beautiful 700-acre farm. Bonnaroo brings together some of the best performers in all genres of music, including rock, jazz, Americana, hip-hop, electronica, and more. The theme of Bonnaroo is it’s what makes this place home to so many people from so many different walks of life. Something you’ll notice that is the same with everyone is that they all radiate positivity. Radiate Positivity is the ‘theme’ of Bonnaroo.
Splash-a-roo is what you do to escape the heat of the midday sun. Jump into the famous Bonnaroo mushroom fountain in the center of centeroo, or venture over to the big-ass inflatable waterslide and take the plunge. All the *coolest* kids are doing it! Festival co-founder Jonathan Mayer told Spin magazine in 2010 that in searching for a name, they wanted something meaningful and inspiring. “The word ‘Bonnaroo’ looked cool. It turned out that it’s Creole slang for ‘good stuff. ‘ That just seemed to represent what we’re about,” said Mayer.
The first Bonnaroo, organized by veteran music promoter Ashley Capps and held in 2002, attracted about 70,000 visitors. The festival took its name from the 1974 album Desitively Bonnaroo by New Orleans pianist and vocalist Dr. John. In the Creole slang of New Orleans, bonnaroo means, roughly, “best on the street.”While the general vibe of Bonnaroo is positive and peaceful, there are still restrictions on what can’t be brought onto the 700-acre property.
